NBA Champion Doing Basketball Ireland Clinics

SPORTFORBUSINESS.COM —

NBA Champion with the Milwaukee Bucks Pat Connaughton will be hosting a series of clinics for the Basketball Ireland academy squads in Galway, Limerick, and Dublin next week.

Connaughton, whose grandparents hailed from Loughrea, Co. Galway, before moving to the United States, will be in Galway (University of Galway – Kingfisher) on Monday, August 21st, Limerick (UL Arena) on Wednesday, August 23rd and Dublin on Friday, August 25th.

A graduate of Notre Dame, Connaughton will doubtless be dropping by the Aviva Stadium on Saturday for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic but having him here in Ireland is a huge boost for the young players that might one day hope to emulate him.

He will return to the Milwaukee Bucks alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in search of his second NBA Championship in the 2023/24 season.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to run these clinics with Basketball Ireland through my foundation,” he said.

“I’ve spoken previously about taking family trips to Galway, my dual citizenship and how much that means to me. To be able to return, share my knowledge of the game of basketball and hopefully impact these young athletes is very exciting.”

“My entire Foundation and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to help the grow the game of basketball in Ireland.”

“It’s fantastic for the organisation to welcome a player with Pat Connaughton’s stature to Ireland,” added Basketball Ireland CEO John Feehan.

“This is an amazing opportunity for those in the Basketball Ireland pathway programme to learn first-hand from a current NBA star, who has succeeded at the highest level. We hope that this is just the beginning of the link between Basketball Ireland and the Pat Connaughton Foundation.”
