Milwaukee College Prep gets new basketball court thanks to Bucks star
Pat Connaughton awarded Milwaukee College Prep on 38th Street with a refurbished basketball court
MILWAUKEE —
Milwaukee College Prep on 38th Street unveiled a brand new basketball court Wednesday, made possible by a Milwaukee Bucks player.
Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard Pat Connaughton is ensuring his love of basketball trickles down the next generation by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to local schools to refurbish their basketball courts.
The latest Connaughton Court transformed, is at K-8 school Milwaukee College Prep.
"We all kind of need a helping hand, so if we can utilize our platform in the NBA as players to show that, you know, dreams that seem far-fetched are possible. Hopefully, it inspires that next generation to continue to reach for the stars and land on the moon," said Connaughton.
Milwaukee College Prep uses the court not only for its gymnasium but it's also its lunchroom. That multipurpose use is a big reason why they were chosen as a Connaughton Court.
"Our goal is to to pick those schools that need it most but also are utilizing the court for more than just basketball," said Connaughton. "They have the ability to really have an impact on the trajectory of of a young kid's life, and really help put them in positions to succeed no matter what their definition of success is."
Of the six Connaughton Courts, five of them are located in the city of Milwaukee.
The first court refurbished was at Connaughton's alma mater in Danvers, Massachusetts.
