Hoops with Troops

With Us was honored to be a part of the Portland Trail Blazers commitment to service at the Oregon Food Bank over the weekend. Members of the Trail Blazers, including our founder Pat Connaughton, joined military personnel stationed across the Northwest to sort and package food for local families. The event was part of the NBA’s Commitment to Service initiative, where teams across the country volunteer alongside members of the military around the celebration of Veteran’s Day.

Some history on Oregon’s child food insecurity. It is among the most prevalent nationwide, more than a quarter of kids in Oregon don’t always know where their next meal is coming from. The Trail Blazers joined with two great nonprofit organizations, Oregon Food Bank (OFB) and USO Northwest, to ensure food can be delivered to families who need it most. Each month, OFB and the OFB Network serve more than 270,000 people, in which over 90,000 of them are children, in Oregon and Clark County, Washington. Volunteers donated more than 180,000 hours in the last year alone, which is equivalent to having 96 full-time staff members.

Helping disadvantaged children is our core goal at With Us and obviously something most of us take for granted, eating our next meal, is a place we want to help out in anyway we can. For more information on what we are doing please look on our website at www.withusfoundation.com.
